I would never have expected a beautiful and design-led retreat like Willow House to be in the middle of what I felt was nowhere in Terlingua, Texas, after miles of being on the road. Much love to my friend who planned the Texas road trip and brought us here! She has impeccable design taste, and I expected no less when she talked excitedly about Willow House before we arrived here. There are 10 suites, each a concrete casita with views of the Chisos Mountain Range.
When we arrived for check-in, it was lightly misting, and there was news of an incoming ice storm. We weren’t able to enjoy the outdoors fully because of it, but we were cozy and warm inside our concrete casita, playing games and passing out into the night.
The weather in the next morning, albeit freezing, let us roam a bit outside before we checked-out. Out in the desert like that – I could not hear a sound. And it was all so still and beautiful. It’s one of those moments that makes you forget about everything because of the stillness. Only nature has the power to do that.
Communal space
Good to Know
- Plan for food! There’s only a few restaurants around, each with different hours and days open, as well as a couple grocery stores. There’s a communal kitchen where you can cook. Definitely plan ahead on this!
