I have wanted to visit INNESS ever since they opened up in 2021. The property feels very much like a quiet farmhouse but with heavy Scandinavian influence. There is an abundance of activities that guests can do, like golf, tennis, and swimming in the pool depending on the weather and season. We along with a couple friends of ours decided to take our dogs and spontaneously stay for a single night to get away from the city. We had just went through two weeks of dreary, rainy weather, so we hoped for a couple of sunny days while we’d be at INNESS. As luck would have it, it rained the day we went up to INNESS. I used to feel bummed out and discouraged when it rains on occasions like this, as younger me preferred the sun to be out so I could take bright photos where everything is well lit. However I’ve grown to embrace and love the moodiness that a rainy day brings. It’s more about opening myself up to the possibility that rain can bring in its own magical moments especially when it comes to photography.
We decided to book a Two Bedroom Cabin Suite. As the property is expansive, the cabins are located further away enough to require car service. The car service transports you to and from your cabin. We didn’t leave once we checked-in except to get takeout nearby at Harana Market, a Filipino restaurant. There was a small wood-burning stove in one of the bedrooms, and we used up the entire supply of wood to stay warm and cozy, sheltering from the cold rainy weather. Eventually, the rain subsided by late afternoon, so we were greeted by a kiss of golden light from the setting sun.
I loved our stay at INNESS, and I can’t wait to go back! While we did not explore the grounds as much because of limited time, we came across quite a few delightful things like lawn games, firepits, a DIY make-your-own-cocktail bar, and a pool table.
Eats
The Restaurant at INNESS
We came here for dinner during a different getaway upstate, and we loved everything we ordered from the sourdough bread to the vegetable dishes and proteins. The menu changes seasonally, and I highly recommend at least having dinner or brunch here during a stay at INNESS.
Harana Market
Harana Market is a Filipino restaurant. They were originally in Woodstock, NY. We stayed in an Airbnb in Woodstock a year ago, and we were so excited to eat there since my husband is Filipino. It’s not often that you find a Filipino restaurant far from the city. We unfortunately went to eat there on a day that Woodstock was holding a local film festival, so nearly everything was sold out by the time we arrived. But of the food that we did get to try, we enjoyed it so much including their lumpia and kare kare, a peanut butter-based beef stew. I was surprised to find out from our friend that they moved to Accord, NY, with a much bigger space. We went for lunch before check-in and tried their signature fried chicken that’s marinated in fish sauce and citrus before frying. We all agreed that it was insanely delicious, and I loved the crispy skin. We loved it so much that we got takeout from there for dinner and brought it back to INNESS to have. They have outdoor seating for people with dogs, but if it’s a rainy day … well that’s why you bring takeout back to the hotel or have lunch in the car like we did!

Black Dot
Before we went home, we stopped by Black Dot for really great coffee (chai latte for me!) and one of the best olive oil cakes I tried. It was lemon flavored, and it instantly made me think of lemon candy. Did I mention it’s dog-friendly?
